3 Tips for Photographing Babies

By Abby Schreiber

Squishy faces, chubby feet - babies are adorable!

There's a reason why they're one of the most photographed subjects. But the fact that they can't listen to directions yet may present a bit of a problem while trying to get them to pose. Here are some tips to help you out:

Match your baby's schedule.

When do they nap? Are they happiest after eating? Try to plan your pictures (at least staged ones) during times that work for them…unless your goal is a photo of a cranky baby. In which case, go for it.

Use toys or songs to capture their attention.

A baby doesn't know to look at the camera, so get them to look near the camera (bonus points if the toy/song gets them to smile)!

Keep your camera close.

Babies are unpredictable sometimes! You never know when something "picture perfect" is going to happen. The best tip is simply to be ready for the moment to strike.
