Using this technique you can take advantage of the ease and increased productivity of using a Blueprint, template or pre-designed page and combine it with this technique to really make a special photo stand out from your page. Objective: Use the cutting tools (Wand and Custom Cutter) to create a photo pop out that fits in an existing photo holder on a Blueprint, template or pre-designed page.

With your Blueprint, template or pre-designed page already on the page, follow these instructions: The main photo:

- - Decide which photo holder you will use to place your pop-out.
  - If your chosen photo holder has a mat or a stroke larger than 3pts applied to it, you must remove it.
    - Mat: Right click> Effects> Edit and delete the mat layers in the operations panel
    - Stroke: Use the Quick Access Toolbar to set the stroke to "none"
  - Click on both the horizontal and vertical rulers to create a frame around the photo holder you choose to use for your pop-out.
  - In the elements panel, click the eye to hide the empty photo holder
  - Add your photo to the page
    - Resize and position the photo so that your desired portion of photo fills the rectangle formed by the ruler guides and the area that you want to pop-out extends outside of the rectangle created by the ruler guides
  - With the photo selected, go to Cut> Cutters> Shapes
    - Flatten if prompted
    - Select the rectangle cutter
    - Size and position the rectangle cutter so that it rests on the rectangle formed by the ruler markers
    - Keep the appropriate area
    - Copy
  - Select the copied photo section and re-apply any stroke or mat that was previously applied
    - Note: You cannot apply a large mat without changing the size of the photo section which will prevent the photo and the pop-out from lining up properly
    - Using a stroke to achieve the look of a mat is recommended
    - Sample and apply can be helpful here

The pop-out:

- - Select the original photo
    - Cut> Cutters> Custom> Cut out a straight path
      - Flatten if prompted
    - Select the area of the pop out, keep the appropriate area and Cut.
      - Note: Depending on the photo, you will use one or more cutting tools to complete your cut
        
        If the background is very busy, use the Custom Cutter to get a clean cut
        
        If the background is mostly solid color, you will use the Wand tool
        
        You may need to use the erase tool to clean up or smooth the cut
    - In the elements panel, position the pop-out above the photo section

Tips: If applying shadows to the pop-out, use a custom shadow which points away from the photo area.
